The Opportunity

Joining A&M’s UK R&D Tax Services team means becoming part of a multidisciplinary group of tax specialists, finance professionals, and technical subject matter experts. The team has an established reputation for helping businesses access UK innovation incentives and works closely with colleagues across the UK and internationally.

Our clients range from ambitious SMEs to large and complex corporate groups. We advise across both UK R&D tax regimes, helping organisations navigate an increasingly challenging landscape shaped by legislative change, heightened HMRC scrutiny, and growing complexity within the tax environment.

This role offers the chance to combine technical excellence, client advisory work, and team leadership in a fast-paced and rewarding practice.

Key Responsibilities

As a Manager within the R&D Tax practice, you will play a leading role in delivering high-quality client work and supporting the continued growth of the team.

In this role, you will:

• Prepare and review detailed R&D tax claim analyses, technical reports, and HMRC submission documents.

• Ensure claims are robust, well-supported, compliant, and clearly evidenced.

• Lead client discussions to identify and assess qualifying R&D activities.

• Analyse technical and financial information to quantify eligible expenditure accurately.

• Work with complex datasets, structuring and reviewing data to identify qualifying costs and allocate them correctly.

• Manage engagement risk and help clients respond effectively to HMRC enquiries.

• Maintain defensible technical positions throughout claim preparation and enquiry processes.

• Explain complex R&D tax matters clearly and confidently to clients, including implications for their wider tax position.

• Coach and mentor junior team members, ensuring work is delegated effectively and delivered to high standards.

• Oversee multiple engagements while managing deadlines, budgets, and quality expectations.

• Support business development efforts and strengthen long-term client relationships.

Preferred qualifications and experience:

• Previous experience working on Research & Development Tax Credit engagements

• Advanced degree

• Strong research, analytical, and technical writing skills

• Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

• Strong organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines effectively
