Partner – Wills, Probate, Tax & Trusts (North)

Flint Bishop is looking to appoint an experienced Partner – Wills, Probate, Tax & Trusts to join our well-established Northern team, based in Sheffield. This is an outstanding opportunity for a senior legal professional with substantial post-qualification experience who is ready to take on a strategic, client-facing role within a growing department.

The successful candidate will manage a broad and complex caseload with a high degree of autonomy, while also playing an important role in the continued development of the team and wider department. You will combine excellent technical expertise with commercial awareness, strong leadership skills, and a genuine commitment to outstanding client service.


About the Role

As a senior member of the Wills, Probate, Tax & Trusts (North) team, you will take responsibility for a significant and varied caseload covering a wide range of private client matters, including high-value and complex estates.

You will also work closely with clients, professional contacts, and third parties to ensure matters are progressed efficiently and to the highest professional standards. In addition, this role includes supporting and mentoring junior colleagues, helping to maintain exceptional service delivery across the department.

This is a full-time position reporting directly to the Head of Wills, Probate, Tax & Trusts (North).


What You’ll Be Doing

Core Fee-Earning Responsibilities

You will be responsible for managing a diverse private client caseload, including:

  • Advising clients on all aspects of Wills, Probate, Tax, and Trust matters

  • Drafting and preparing all types of Wills

  • Administering high-value and complex estates

  • Providing inheritance tax planning advice

  • Advising on the risks associated with death, divorce, and bankruptcy in relation to lifetime gifting

  • Establishing and administering trusts

  • Supporting senior colleagues on particularly complex matters

  • Providing technical supervision and guidance to junior fee-earners

  • Allocating and signing off work where required

  • Ensuring matters are accurately maintained on relevant internal systems

  • Communicating case developments appropriately and in a timely manner

  • Recording all time on the Tikit system, including non-billable activities

  • Supporting departmental audit activity as required

  • Undertaking additional duties as reasonably requested by the Head of Department


Leadership & Team Contribution

This role goes beyond technical legal delivery. As a senior member of the team, you will be expected to contribute to performance, development, and operational effectiveness.

You will also:

  • Attend monthly fee-earner meetings and contribute at a senior level

  • Participate in regular one-to-one meetings with the Head of Department

  • Report on departmental priorities and financial performance

  • Work collaboratively with the Head of Department to drive team performance and development

  • Help monitor team capacity and support effective delegation of work

  • Offer ongoing mentoring and support to junior team members


Business Development & Client Relationship Management

We are looking for someone who brings a proactive and commercially aware approach to client engagement and departmental growth.

Key business development responsibilities include:

  • Taking an active role in managing the client experience

  • Attending client meetings where required

  • Supporting the renewal process for existing clients

  • Helping ensure a proactive, seamless service for clients

  • Preparing and delivering external training sessions for prospective and current clients

  • Contributing to wider business development initiatives

  • Reporting relevant business development activity to senior management


What We’re Looking For

We are seeking a highly capable legal professional who can combine technical excellence with leadership, relationship-building, and commercial awareness.

To succeed in this role, you will ideally have:

  • Qualification as a Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive

  • Significant experience managing your own Wills, Probate, Tax & Trusts caseload with minimal supervision

  • Strong technical expertise across a broad range of private client matters

  • The ability to manage complex and high-value work confidently and independently

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

  • The ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly to clients and stakeholders

  • Outstanding client care and relationship management skills

  • A highly motivated and proactive mindset

  • The ability to add strategic value to the department

  • Strong organisational skills and a collaborative approach

  • Experience or confidence in networking and client development
