This is a high-impact opportunity for an experienced tax professional to lead complex tax controversy matters, shape strategy, and partner with key stakeholders across the business.


About the Team

The Tax team at TikTok is responsible for helping ensure the business and its products remain tax compliant across multiple countries and jurisdictions. Beyond compliance, the team also acts as a strategic partner to the wider organisation, supporting internal stakeholders on product launches, business expansion, and the rollout of new features.

Working in a fast-evolving international environment, the team collaborates closely with finance, legal, product, and business functions to manage tax risk and enable sustainable growth.


The Opportunity

Reporting to the **EMEA Director of Tax & Treasury**, the **EMEA Tax Controversy Manager** will lead the management of tax audits, authority inquiries, and disputes across the EMEA region.

This role is central to navigating complex tax matters and ensuring the company responds effectively to tax authority challenges while safeguarding both financial and reputational interests. You will work in close partnership with internal teams and external advisers to drive strong outcomes across a broad range of tax controversy issues.


What You’ll Be Responsible For

  • Lead end-to-end management of tax audits, inquiries, and disputes across EMEA, including:

  • Corporate tax

  • Indirect tax

  • Transfer pricing

  • Digital services tax

  • Develop and drive resolution strategies for complex tax matters, including:

  • Transfer pricing disputes

  • Advanced Pricing Agreement (APA) negotiations

  • Mutual Agreement Procedures (MAP)

  • Tax litigation involving corporate income tax and VAT

  • Own the defence of TikTok’s tax positions, building effective strategies to reduce exposure and minimise financial risk

  • Act as the primary liaison with tax authorities across the EMEA region, maintaining constructive, professional, and transparent working relationships

  • Prepare and review technical submissions, including:

  • Response letters

  • Position papers

  • Appeals

  • Settlement proposals

  • Partner cross-functionally with teams including:

  • Finance

  • Legal

  • Business

  • Product

  • Other internal stakeholders

  • Coordinate and manage external tax and legal advisers, ensuring resources are used efficiently and defence strategies are robust and high quality

  • Assess and monitor tax risk across the region, turning audit findings into practical improvements for tax compliance and advisory processes

  • Maintain strong governance and controls for tax controversy matters in alignment with the EMEA Tax Framework and global tax policy

  • Improve processes and reporting infrastructure to support effective tracking, management, and leadership reporting of the EMEA audit portfolio

  • Stay ahead of regional developments by monitoring changes in tax authority focus areas, dispute resolution mechanisms, and broader controversy trends


What We’re Looking For

Minimum Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in tax controversy, tax litigation, or complex tax advisory work

  • A background ideally spanning a combination of:

  • Large public accounting firms

  • Top-tier law firms

  • In-house roles within multinational organisations

  • Professional qualification in accountancy or tax, such as:

  • ACA

  • ATT

  • CTA

    or

    qualification as a Legal/Tax Attorney

  • Strong understanding of EMEA tax principles, including:

  • Corporate tax

  • Indirect tax

  • Transfer pricing

  • Deep knowledge of tax audit procedures and dispute resolution frameworks

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex tax issues clearly and persuasively

  • Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to convert technical tax matters into practical business guidance

  • Demonstrated success in managing major tax audits and negotiating with tax authorities

  • Strong project management capability, with experience handling multiple matters across several jurisdictions at once

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within the TMT or technology sector

  • Background in high-growth or innovation-led organisations

  • Comfort working in fast-paced, collaborative environments with shifting priorities and evolving regulation
