Assistant Manager – Employment Tax

Forvis Mazars LLP is seeking a motivated and technically capable Assistant Manager to join its expanding Employment Tax team in the North, based in either Leeds or Manchester.

About the Opportunity
As an Assistant Manager, you will play an important role in supporting the delivery and management of a broad range of UK employment tax advisory and compliance work. You will gain meaningful exposure to clients, collaborate closely with senior specialists and Partners, and help guide junior team members through review and coaching responsibilities.
This position offers the chance to deepen your expertise across a varied portfolio of employment tax matters, while becoming part of a high-performing national Employment Tax team and the wider Global Employer Solutions community.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will contribute across both technical delivery and team support, including:
Supporting and delivering advisory projects across areas such as:
PAYE/NIC
Benefits and expenses
Termination payments
Reward strategy and cost reduction
Employment status matters, including IR35 and Umbrella arrangements
Construction Industry Scheme (CIS)
National Minimum Wage (NMW)
Payroll governance
Preparing and reviewing:
Advisory notes
Technical reports
Calculations
HMRC correspondence
Assisting with compliance and year-end activity, including:
PAYE Settlement Agreements (PSAs)
P11D reviews
Employer compliance checks
Year-end employment tax processes
Participating in client meetings and calls, contributing to discussions and ensuring actions are followed through effectively
Reviewing work completed by junior colleagues, while providing constructive feedback and day-to-day coaching
Supporting business development initiatives through:
Research
Proposal drafting
Marketing content preparation
Contributing to internal development, including:
Technical training
Knowledge sharing
Process improvement initiatives
What We’re Looking For
We are keen to hear from candidates who bring a solid grounding in employment tax together with a proactive, client-focused mindset.
You should have:
3+ years of UK employment tax experience, gained either in practice or in-house
A strong understanding of:
UK PAYE/NIC regulations
Expenses and benefits
IR35 and worker status
HMRC processes and enquiries
ATT and/or CTA qualification, or demonstrable employment tax experience
Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce work that is clear, accurate, and commercially relevant
Strong attention to detail
A proactive approach to problem-solving
A genuine interest in building deeper technical expertise and taking on greater client-facing responsibility
