We are seeking a highly capable tax professional to take ownership of the company’s corporate tax compliance and advisory activities. This is a key role with broad exposure across the business, supporting strategic decision-making, ensuring robust reporting, maintaining strong controls, and managing tax risk in a dynamic international environment.
The Opportunity
In this role, you will lead on a wide range of tax matters across the organisation, partnering with internal teams and external advisers to ensure compliance, provide technical guidance, and support major business initiatives.
You will also play an important role in strengthening the tax control environment, supporting reporting obligations, and responding effectively to enquiries, audits, and evolving legislation.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Tax Advisory & Strategic Projects
You will provide expert tax support across a variety of commercial and operational activities, helping the business identify both risks and opportunities.
Identify tax risks and planning opportunities arising across the business, and develop practical solutions
Examples may include:
permanent establishment risk
transfer pricing risk
Lead the tax advisory workstream for group-wide projects, including:
group restructures
transfer pricing transformation
intercompany debt rationalisation
Partner closely with the wider group tax team on international initiatives
Manage:
Advance Pricing Agreement (APA) matters
transfer pricing compliance
supporting documentation
Provide technical VAT advice in response to business changes
for example, new webstore or digital sales arrangements
Advise the Operations team on:
cross-border VAT
customs duty considerations
Provide employer tax guidance, particularly relating to internationally mobile employees
Review contracts and legal documentation to assess tax implications
Coordinate the implementation of tax-related group projects
such as dormant company eliminations
Monitor tax law changes and communicate their business impact, including:
new tax opportunities
changes in tax rates
R&D relief developments
emerging tax risks
Tax Accounting & Reporting
This role has significant responsibility for tax reporting and accounting across both UK and international operations.
Lead quarterly group tax reporting processes
Prepare the UK tax reporting packs
Prepare and review overseas tax packs
Support tax consolidation activities
Analyse UK and group deferred tax provisions
Review forecast business performance to maximise recognition of deferred tax assets where appropriate
Analyse and report on:
corporate interest restriction matters
uncertain tax positions
transfer pricing adjustments
Lead tax-related aspects of the quarterly and annual external audit process
Monitor the group’s effective tax rate (ETR)
Identify opportunities to help normalise ETR where possible
Prepare tax reports for the Japan head office, including:
APA calculations
reconciliation of tax adjustment impacts on ETR
Prepare and review tax disclosures and notes for UK statutory financial statements
Tax Compliance
You will help ensure the company meets all relevant tax compliance obligations while maintaining clear supporting documentation and strong governance.
Make IR35 status determinations for contractors engaged by the business
Ensure compliance across key employment tax areas, including:
PAYE Settlement Agreement completion
share scheme operation
employee relocations
short-term business visitor arrangements
Ensure compliance with the Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) regime
Maintain appropriate documentation to evidence compliance and support internal controls
Additional Responsibilities
Alongside advisory and compliance work, you will also contribute to budgeting, external adviser management, and corporate filing obligations.
Take responsibility for tax budgeting
Coordinate work performed by external tax advisers
Oversee corporate tax filing for UK companies
What We’re Looking For
Essential Experience & Qualifications
We are looking for a well-rounded tax professional with strong technical capability and the confidence to operate across multiple tax disciplines.
CTA qualified or equivalent
Strong knowledge and practical experience in:
corporate tax
VAT
transfer pricing
Experience dealing with:
cross-border transactions
international tax issues
Essential Skills & Attributes
The successful candidate will combine technical depth with strong communication and organisational skills.
Strong Excel proficiency
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships across all levels of the business
Highly accurate, organised, and capable of delivering to tight deadlines
Proactive approach with the ability to take ownership and drive work forward
Desirable Experience
The following would be advantageous, though not essential:
ADIT qualified or equivalent
Deeper experience in VAT
Experience in employment tax
Previous tax compliance and advisory experience within a Top 10 accounting firm
Desirable Technical Skills
Additional systems knowledge and leadership experience would be beneficial in this role.
Experience using tax calculation software such as:
ONESOURCE Corporate Tax
iXBRL tagging software
or equivalent tools
Experience managing a team of tax professionals
Previous exposure to ERP systems such as:
Unit 4
SAP
or similar platforms
