Role Overview

As an Indirect Tax Professional, you will take ownership of the organization’s end-to-end GST and indirect tax compliance framework. From statutory filings and reconciliations to audit management, litigation coordination, and tax strategy, you will be central to ensuring the business remains compliant, responsive, and well-positioned in a changing regulatory environment.

This role calls for a professional who can confidently engage with internal stakeholders, tax authorities, legal advisors, and cross-functional teams while maintaining a strong focus on accuracy, timelines, and business impact.


What You Will Be Responsible For

Indirect Tax Compliance

  • Manage end-to-end GST compliance, including:

  • Monthly GST payments

  • Return filings

  • Reconciliations

  • MIS reporting

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable statutory and regulatory indirect tax requirements.

  • Maintain robust tax documentation for filings, responses, audit papers, and litigation records.

Audit, Assessments & Litigation

  • Handle GST audits and pre-GST assessment proceedings with tax authorities.

  • Prepare and submit responses to departmental notices, queries, and statutory communications with accuracy and timeliness.

  • Drive appeal-related actions, ensuring proper documentation, representation, and follow-through.

  • Coordinate with legal counsel and support representation before:

  • Statutory authorities

  • Tribunals

  • Courts

Tax Strategy & Advisory

  • Monitor changes in GST and indirect tax laws and assess their implications for the business.

  • Communicate legislative impact clearly to relevant internal stakeholders.

  • Support indirect tax planning initiatives and implement practical, compliance-driven solutions.

  • Contribute to tax strategy development that aligns with business priorities and regulatory expectations.

Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead and mentor the indirect tax team, ensuring quality execution and alignment with organizational values.

  • Collaborate across departments to resolve tax issues efficiently and proactively.

  • Manage relationships with internal teams and external advisors to support smooth tax operations and dispute resolution.

  • Travel across states, when required, for audits, assessments, and representation matters.

Success will come from your ability to manage complex compliance obligations, address departmental matters with confidence, and guide both business stakeholders and team members through evolving tax challenges.


What We’re Looking For

Qualifications

  • CA / CMA / LLB preferred

  • Candidates with strong and relevant indirect tax experience may also be considered

Experience

  • 10–15+ years of experience in indirect taxation

  • Experience working in a SAP-enabled ERP environment

  • Background in Big Four consulting and/or a large manufacturing organization will be advantageous

Technical & Professional Skills

  • Strong knowledge of:

  • GST

  • Indirect tax regulations

  • Tax litigation processes

  • Tax planning frameworks

  • Excellent skills in:

  • Drafting

  • Negotiation

  • Representation before authorities

  • Proven ability to lead and manage tax teams

  • Proficiency in:

  • Microsoft Excel

  • MS Office

  • ERP systems, especially SAP

Personal Attributes

  • Detail-oriented and highly organized

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability

  • Compliance-focused with a high degree of professional integrity

  • Collaborative and confident in stakeholder interactions

  • Able to work effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
