About the Role
This senior leadership role heads the firm’s international tax function and is responsible for maintaining the firm’s tax strategy, overseeing global tax compliance, and ensuring accurate, timely delivery of obligations across corporate tax, VAT/sales taxes, payroll taxes, transfer pricing, country-by-country reporting, and partner tax matters. The role also manages tax risks linked to remote working, partner and staff mobility, secondments, new office openings, and other strategic initiatives, while supporting senior leadership on governance, reporting, and broader partner finance matters.
A major part of the position involves identifying, assessing, and mitigating global tax risk. The successful candidate would lead responses to tax audits and authority enquiries, liaise with HMRC, the ATO, and other tax authorities, monitor legislative developments such as Pillar 2, and implement the firm’s policies and controls accordingly. They would also work closely with finance teams and advisers to structure cross-border transactions and client billing arrangements efficiently, balancing compliance, commerciality, and profitability.
The role includes significant stakeholder management and leadership responsibilities. As a core member of the Tax and Partner Finance senior leadership team, the Head of International Tax would lead and develop an international specialist team across locations and time zones, build strong relationships with finance and management stakeholders, improve operational processes, and ensure proactive communication and succession planning within the team.
The firm is seeking a degree-educated qualified accountant and/or tax adviser with substantial post-qualification experience in a partnership environment, ideally over 10 years in a senior advisory capacity within a large organisation. The candidate should bring deep international tax expertise—particularly across the UK, US, and Australia—along with strong commercial judgement, influencing ability, people leadership, and the capacity to operate effectively in a complex global business.
