Pinnacle Group is seeking an accomplished UK Tax Accountant to join our Finance Team on a 6-month fixed-term contract. This is an exciting opportunity to take the lead on a wide-ranging review of the Group’s tax position across approximately 20 statutory entities, with a strong emphasis on VAT compliance, controls, and process enhancement within a complex, high-volume environment.
Working closely with the Group Financial Controller, you will take ownership of the company’s UK tax obligations and play a central role in strengthening the business’s tax framework to support long-term financial resilience.
About the Role
This position is ideal for a technically strong tax professional who thrives in fast-paced, multi-entity environments and has deep expertise in UK VAT. You will be responsible for reviewing current tax practices, improving controls, supporting compliance, and advising the wider business on VAT-related matters across a varied operational landscape.
The role is offered on a hybrid basis, with travel required to Holborn, London or Chelmsford, Essex.

What You’ll Be Doing
As UK Tax Accountant, you will be entrusted with a broad and impactful remit across compliance, controls, governance, and advisory support.
Key responsibilities include:
Preparing, reviewing, and submitting UK VAT returns, including:
Group VAT matters
Partial exemption calculations
Capital Goods Scheme considerations
Option-to-tax portfolio issues
Domestic Reverse Charge matters within property and FM supply chains
Owning and maintaining end-to-end digital links for Making Tax Digital (MTD), ensuring a clear and robust VAT control framework from source data through to submission
Advising the wider business on VAT treatment relating to:
Facilities services
Recharges
Property transactions and leases
Apportionments
Place of supply issues and other complex scenarios
Identifying and reducing VAT leakage by analysing data for:
Mis-codings
Blocked input tax
Error trends
Recovery improvement opportunities
Co-designing and delivering the annual tax controls testing plan, including walkthroughs and sample testing across VAT and other tax areas
Managing remediation plans arising from audit findings and implementing preventive controls such as:
Validation rules
Segregation of duties
Exception dashboards
Maintaining the tax risk register, with clear likelihood and impact assessments, key risk indicators, and quarterly reporting to Finance leadership and Internal Audit
Building strong reconciliations and reporting tools, including:
General Ledger to VAT ledger reconciliations
Exception reporting
Analytical reviews
Automation through Power Query and Power BI
Championing data quality governance for tax-sensitive data fields such as VAT codes, supplier/customer classifications, and benefit categories
Delivering training and guidance to Finance, HR, and Operations teams, helping colleagues understand tax requirements through practical playbooks and clear guidance notes
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for a confident and experienced tax professional who combines strong technical capability with a practical, commercially aware mindset.
The ideal candidate will have:
Significant UK VAT experience, with hands-on responsibility for filings, calculations, and controls across group structures
Strong expertise in:
Group VAT
Partial exemption
Property-related VAT
Construction VAT, including CIS and the Domestic Reverse Charge
In-house experience within a multisite, high-volume environment such as:
Property
Facilities management
Outsourcing
Logistics
Or a similar sector
A proven track record of reviewing and improving VAT policies, procedures, systems, and controls
Experience providing tax advisory support on compliance-related matters
Confidence in dealing directly with HMRC on VAT matters
A relevant professional qualification, such as:
CTA preferred
Or ATT, ACA, or ACCA with a strong tax background
