About the Role

Tax Controversy and Risk Management Opportunities at EY

Location: London, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, or Edinburgh

Join EY’s Tax Controversy and Risk Management (TCRM) team and become part of one of the UK’s leading dispute resolution practices. Our team brings together deep expertise in tax disputes, litigation, and risk management, operating as part of EY’s wider International Tax and Transaction Services practice.

Over the past 15 years, our TCRM team has built an impressive reputation for growth, excellence, and innovation. With ambitious expansion plans ahead, we are looking for talented professionals who are excited to play a meaningful role in our future. Whether you are already a dispute resolution specialist or are looking to build your career in this area, we would love to hear from you.

Why Join the TCRM Team?

Our team supports businesses in managing complex tax controversies, engaging effectively with HMRC, and taking proactive steps to reduce and control tax risk. We combine strong technical tax capability with proven dispute resolution approaches, delivering practical and commercial outcomes for clients.

At EY, you will join a collaborative and forward-thinking environment where tax professionals work closely across teams to deliver high-quality client service. Experience working with large multinational organisations will be especially valuable in this role.

The Role

As part of the TCRM team, you will work with clients to navigate tax disputes from initial engagement through to resolution. You will also contribute to proactive HMRC interactions and help organisations identify, assess, and mitigate areas of tax risk.

This is an excellent opportunity for a corporate tax professional who is interested in deepening their expertise in tax controversy and dispute resolution within a highly respected and growing team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of tax controversy projects, ensuring both technical quality and commercial value.
  • Work directly with clients and liaise with broader tax and client account teams to coordinate successful engagements.
  • Drive actions that achieve effective tax outcomes and greater certainty for clients.
  • Assist with SAO certification and the preparation of tax strategies for publication.
  • Support clients in preparing for Business Risk Review+ discussions with HMRC.
  • Contribute to risk assessment and resolution strategies across a range of tax matters.

What We’re Looking For

We are interested in individuals with a strong foundation in corporate tax who are motivated to develop or strengthen a specialism in tax controversy.

Skills and Attributes for Success

  • Broad experience in corporate tax compliance or advisory, with an interest in controversy and dispute resolution.
  • Previous experience in tax controversy is preferred, but not essential.
  • Strong tax technical knowledge and a commitment to continued professional development.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret tax legislation and deliver high-quality, accurate output.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively across teams.
  • Confidence in identifying risks, performing detailed reviews, and escalating issues where appropriate.
  • An interest in innovation, technology, and AI tools to enhance ways of working.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must have one of the following:

  • ACA / CA / ACCA / CTA (or equivalent), alongside experience in a corporate tax-focused role; or
  • Experience as a Tax Inspector with completion of the full Technical Training Course (IDP / TPDP / TSP, or equivalent) at Grade 7 or above for Manager-level roles and above.

Ideally, you will also bring:

  • Current experience in tax controversy or corporate tax.
  • A genuine interest in building a deeper specialism in tax controversy.
  • A proactive mindset toward learning, growth, and career progression.

At EY, you will be part of a business that values both individual achievement and team success. We offer a competitive remuneration package and a comprehensive Total Rewards offering designed to support your career and personal priorities.

You can expect:

  • Flexible working support to help you balance your professional and personal commitments.
  • Career development opportunities and access to continuous learning.

  • The opportunity to build new skills and progress within a growing team.
  • A broad benefits package covering:
    • Holidays
    • Health and well-being support
