Advanced Energy is looking for a highly capable and detail-driven Indirect Tax Analyst – Lead Accountant to join its Corporate Accounting team in the UK. This is an excellent opportunity for a tax and finance professional with strong indirect tax expertise to take ownership of routine compliance, reporting, and process improvement across assigned countries.

The Opportunity

Based in the UK, this role is responsible for managing and overseeing routine indirect tax reporting and compliance for a portfolio of assigned countries. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring high standards of tax accuracy, supporting business operations, enhancing financial controls, and driving indirect tax improvements across the region.


Key Responsibilities

Indirect Tax Compliance & Reporting

  • Review indirect tax returns for assigned countries, including:

  • VAT returns

  • EC Sales Lists

  • Intrastat submissions

  • Other relevant statutory reporting

  • Ensure all filings are accurate, complete, and submitted on time.

  • Provide day-to-day indirect tax guidance to the business, recommending practical actions that align with business needs while managing VAT exposure.

  • Monitor VAT regulations across EMEA and support implementation of any required changes.

Accounting & Controls

  • Review and maintain balance sheet reconciliations to a high standard.

  • Post journal entries into the ERP system where required, ensuring VAT accounts remain accurate at all times.

  • Monitor vendor invoice transactions to confirm indirect tax is recorded correctly, with particular attention to regional freight invoices.

  • Identify and resolve system, process, and invoice-related issues impacting tax accuracy or compliance.

Process Management & Third-Party Oversight

  • Manage outsourced service providers, ensuring work is delivered:

  • On time

  • To a high standard

  • Within budget

  • Support the Senior Accountant (Tax) with operational tax activities and reporting requirements.

  • Enforce corporate and local policies, procedures, and controls, including full delegation of authority compliance.

Customs & HMRC Recovery

  • Manage the UK IPR process, working closely with colleagues across departments to support product tracking and maximise reclaim opportunities from HMRC.

  • Coordinate customs documentation changes with freight forwarders where necessary.

Systems & Transformation

  • Support the implementation of indirect tax within the global S/4HANA environment.

  • Contribute to system enhancements that improve efficiency, consistency, and control across the European finance function.

  • Research and define country-specific requirements for E-invoicing implementation across EMEA.

  • Work closely with IT to support delivery of E-invoicing solutions.

Audit & Business Support

  • Support tax audits and help secure the best possible outcomes.

  • Partner with the Senior Manager, Finance, Corporate teams, and regional Finance teams on broader initiatives and ad hoc activities.

  • Contribute to the ongoing development of a more efficient, effective, and well-controlled finance function across Europe.


What We’re Looking For

Skills & Attributes

  • Strong ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

  • Strong communication and organisational skills

  • Ability to influence stakeholders and drive action

  • Solid working knowledge of global indirect tax and VAT requirements

  • Working knowledge of US GAAP; additional GAAP exposure would be beneficial

  • Advanced Excel skills

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken

  • Additional language skills would be advantageous

Experience Required

  • 7+ years of experience in indirect tax reporting

  • Strong international and European tax exposure

  • Significant experience within manufacturing organisations is highly desirable

  • Previous experience working in a US-led multinational business is strongly preferred

  • 5+ years of SAP experience (ECC and S/4HANA), particularly in tax-related settings


Qualifications

  • Qualified Accountant – ACCA, CTA, ICAEW, or equivalent relevant qualification

  • Degree-qualified (or equivalent)
