The Opportunity

As VAT Director, you will play a key leadership role within the team, overseeing a substantial client portfolio while delivering high-level VAT advisory support. This is a strategic position suited to someone who combines strong technical VAT expertise with commercial insight, client relationship skills, and a passion for developing people.

You will act as a trusted adviser to clients, a mentor to colleagues, and a contributor to the continued growth and success of the wider business.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for a broad range of leadership, advisory, and portfolio management activities, including:

• Managing a substantial client portfolio and serving as the primary point of contact

• Providing proactive VAT advice and supporting clients on complex technical matters

• Reviewing and approving work completed by junior team members

• Overseeing the financial management of client assignments

• Identifying opportunities to introduce clients to other teams and service lines

• Highlighting technical issues, risks, and commercial opportunities to Partners, Principals, and Office Leads

• Supporting business development activity, including helping to generate new work

• Managing your own billing, recoverability, and debtors

• Supporting the wider team on VAT advisory issues

• Leading, coaching, and developing junior colleagues

• Ensuring work is delivered on time and within budget, while keeping clients updated on progress

• Maintaining and developing your technical knowledge in line with the demands of the role

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a commercially aware and technically strong VAT professional with the confidence to lead client relationships and contribute to business growth.

The ideal candidate will have:

• CTA and/or ACA qualification, or equivalent

• Significant VAT advisory experience

• Strong technical knowledge across a wide range of VAT matters

• Proven experience managing a client portfolio

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• A strong ability to build and maintain client relationships

• A track record of winning new work and supporting business development

• Experience managing, coaching, and developing team members

• Commercial awareness with the ability to spot opportunities

• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively
