Alvarez & Marsal is seeking an experienced Indirect Tax Assistant Director to join its growing UK tax team. The Opportunity
This is an exciting chance to join a fast-expanding and strategically important part of A&M’s wider tax business. The indirect tax team is closely integrated with our Transactions, Restructuring, and broader Tax practices, giving you exposure to a highly varied and intellectually engaging portfolio of work.
The team advises clients throughout the full business lifecycle, with a particular emphasis on transactions, restructurings, and supply chain transformation. From M&A and due diligence to post-deal integration and international VAT advisory matters, the work is diverse, commercially significant, and often cross-border in nature.
About the Indirect Tax Team
Indirect tax is complex, fast-moving, and critical to effective business operations. When not managed correctly, it can create substantial cost, risk, and administrative burden. Our team helps clients navigate these challenges through practical, commercially focused VAT advice.
We support businesses on matters including:
VAT implications of mergers and acquisitions
Due diligence and deal structuring
Post-acquisition integration
Business reorganisations and operating model changes
Supply chain transformation
Cross-border VAT issues
VAT efficiency and risk management
Working closely with colleagues across jurisdictions, our team delivers coordinated and high-quality advice on complex international matters, ensuring VAT is embedded into strategic business decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
As an Assistant Director, you will play a leading role in delivering complex VAT advisory projects and supporting the continued growth of the practice.
You will be responsible for:
Leading VAT advisory engagements, partnering with Directors and Managing Directors on:
M&A transactions
Due diligence assignments
Deal structuring projects
Acting as a trusted advisor to clients on complex VAT and transactional matters
Building and strengthening client relationships, maintaining a high level of service and commercial insight
Supporting business development efforts, working with senior leadership to originate new work and expand the practice
Driving delivery on pan-European VAT and international supply chain projects, coordinating with global teams where needed
Providing strategic VAT advice grounded in legislation, case law, and commercial practicality
Advising on VAT structuring in relation to:
Transactions
Reorganisations
Business change initiatives
Managing and developing junior team members through:
Coaching
Delegation
Technical review
Taking ownership of WIP management across your client portfolio
Leveraging existing and emerging technologies to improve VAT return processes and drive efficiency
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for a confident and technically strong indirect tax professional who brings both advisory expertise and a client-centric mindset.
Essential skills and experience:
A number of years of experience in indirect tax
Strong technical writing, analytical, research, and organisational skills
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Strong project management capability
Demonstrated business development skills
Ability to perform effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced, time-sensitive environment
Professional qualification such as:
ACA
ADIT
CTA
