About the Role

Assistant Manager – Private Capital Corporate Tax

Grant Thornton UK

Shape the future of tax with a firm that does things differently.

At Grant Thornton UK, we are focused on the future — driving ambitious growth, creating meaningful change across our industry, and helping clients unlock opportunity through audit, tax, and advisory services.

We believe in being a genuine alternative: offering our clients strategic insight and trusted partnership, while giving our people real opportunity, an inclusive culture, and the flexibility to build a rewarding career alongside a balanced life.

With more than 5,000 people across the UK and a presence in 150 global markets, we are on a journey from great to exceptional. To get there, we need talented people who are ready to make an impact.

The Opportunity

New ground won’t break itself.

As an Assistant Manager in our growing Private Capital Corporate Tax team, you will play an important role in supporting the continued expansion of our tax practice across the Central Belt, with a particular focus on the mid-market and owner-managed businesses (OMBs).

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a broad and dynamic client base, develop strong internal and external relationships, and contribute to both domestic and cross-border tax assignments.

You will help clients navigate an increasingly complex tax and sector landscape, delivering tailored solutions that manage today’s risks while preparing for tomorrow’s change.

What You’ll Be Doing

In this role, you will take ownership of a varied portfolio and support clients across a wide range of corporation tax matters.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing a portfolio of clients, including:

  • Owner-managed businesses

  • Private equity-backed businesses

  • Larger corporate groups

  • Supporting corporation tax matters across:

  • Annual corporation tax compliance

  • Specialist tax claims

  • Tax advisory projects

  • Project financing work

  • Transactions

  • Overseeing and reviewing work prepared by junior team members

  • Working closely with Partners and Directors, often reporting directly to them

  • Delivering corporate tax compliance, audit of tax, and tax advisory services

  • Acting as a main point of contact for your client portfolio, building trusted relationships

  • Collaborating with Audit colleagues and other internal teams to provide joined-up client service

  • Coaching and developing junior team members

  • Identifying new business opportunities and contributing to pitch and proposal activity

  • Organising the delivery of tax work, solving problems proactively, and ensuring deadlines are met

  • Building strong internal and external networks to strengthen collaboration and communication

What We’re Looking For

We have ambitious growth plans, and we are looking for people who bring energy, drive, and curiosity to their work.

You will thrive in a fast-moving environment, be adaptable to change, and ask thoughtful questions — of yourself, your colleagues, and your clients — to ensure high-quality outcomes and excellent service delivery.

Minimum requirements:

  • Qualified in one of the following:

  • ACA

  • ATT

  • CTA

  • Experience working in a corporate tax role

We’d also welcome experience in:

  • Strong and up-to-date knowledge of UK corporation tax legislation

  • Understanding of international tax concepts

  • Reviewing work and supervising staff in a tax environment

  • Managing corporation tax compliance portfolios

  • Experience with tax accounting and/or audit of tax

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to support team growth and key client delivery

  • A flexible, organised approach with the ability to manage multiple client commitments and deadlines

Don’t worry if you don’t meet every single point above. If you have the right mindset and a solid foundation, we’ll support your development along the way.
