About the Role

**Associate Director

  • Private Client Tax (Partnerships)**

London | RSM UK

Shape the future of private client tax at one of the world’s leading audit, tax and consulting networks.

At RSM UK, we help middle-market businesses and private clients move forward with confidence. As a fast-growing firm with ambitious global goals, we are committed to becoming the premium adviser to the middle market. That ambition drives everything we do — from the way we serve our clients to how we support our people in building rewarding, meaningful careers.

If you are looking for a role where you can make a visible impact, work on high-value advisory matters, and help shape the success of both clients and colleagues, this could be the ideal next step.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an Associate Director to join our Private Client Tax team, with a specialist focus on Partnerships Tax in London.

In this position, you will take a strategic and commercially minded approach to client service, relationship development, and project leadership. You will work across a broad and interesting client base, while also playing a key role in team leadership, development, and business growth.

This is an opportunity to join a collaborative team that supports individuals, trustees, partnerships, sole traders, family businesses, owner-managed businesses, and family offices with both compliance and advisory tax matters.

About the Team

Our Private Client Partnerships team provides tailored tax support across a wide range of private client matters. We work closely with colleagues across accounting, audit, and tax disciplines to deliver a seamless, joined-up service.

By combining technical excellence with practical commercial insight, we help clients manage their affairs effectively while identifying opportunities, reducing risk, and planning for the future.

What You’ll Be Doing

As an Associate Director, you will play a central role in delivering high-quality tax advisory and compliance services while helping to strengthen and grow the team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing and growing client relationships, acting as a trusted adviser to existing clients and an important first point of contact for prospective clients.

  • Generating and converting new work with the support of Directors and Partners.

  • Leading advisory and technical projects, ensuring delivery is commercially focused, technically strong, and completed to a high standard.

  • Working closely with Partners and senior colleagues on planning assignments, technical matters, and business development initiatives.

  • Overseeing the delivery of client work, including reviewing outputs and ensuring deadlines, budgets, and quality expectations are met.

  • Developing junior team members through coaching, mentoring, and on-the-job support.

  • Supporting workforce planning and team management, helping to maintain a positive, inclusive, and high-performing culture.

  • Collaborating across departments to identify wider client needs and deliver integrated solutions.

  • Briefing and supervising junior staff, providing clear guidance on assignments and client-specific requirements.

  • Contributing to training and development initiatives in partnership with the Talent Development Team.

How You’ll Make an Impact

In this role, your contribution will extend well beyond day-to-day delivery. You will help shape client relationships, develop people, and strengthen RSM’s position in the market.

You’ll make an impact by:

  • Building trusted client relationships and becoming a go-to adviser on partnership tax matters.

  • Driving advisory work forward through strong leadership, insight, and technical expertise.

  • Supporting business development efforts and identifying opportunities to deepen existing relationships.

  • Helping junior colleagues grow, creating a supportive environment where people can develop and thrive.

  • Encouraging collaboration across the firm so clients benefit from the full breadth of RSM’s expertise.

  • Promoting quality, inclusivity, and continuous improvement in everything you do.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a motivated and commercially aware tax professional who enjoys variety, embraces continuous learning, and builds strong connections with clients and colleagues alike.

You will likely bring a mix of technical capability, people leadership, and project management experience, along with a genuine interest in improving the way things are done.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • CTA and/or ACA qualification, or equivalent qualified-by-experience background.

  • A strong understanding of private client tax issues, particularly in relation to partnerships and a varied private client portfolio.

  • Proven experience in client relationship management and project delivery.

  • The ability to lead advisory assignments and produce high-quality work within agreed budgets.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence in dealing with stakeholders at all levels.

  • Experience of managing personal tax compliance and advisory portfolios.

  • A track record of building and maintaining strong internal and external relationships.

  • A genuine interest in mentoring, coaching, and developing junior team members.

What You Can Expect from RSM

We know our people are our greatest asset, and we are committed to creating an environment where you can succeed professionally and personally.

Our benefits package includes:

  • 27 days holiday, with the option to purchase additional days.

  • Hybrid working to support flexibility and balance.

  • A broad range of lifestyle, health and wellbeing benefits.

  • Financial wellbeing support, including practical tools and an electric car scheme.

  • Access to a virtual GP.

  • Individual healthcare cover.

  • Access to 300+ on-demand learning courses developed by our in-house Talent Development team.
