About the Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking, expanding, and high-performing Tax team in a role that combines leadership, technical excellence, client advisory work, and business development.
You will take ownership of a significant corporate tax portfolio while playing a central role in managing compliance delivery, mentoring team members, supporting strategic growth, and identifying valuable advisory opportunities for clients.
Although the role requires strong experience in corporate tax compliance and workflow management, there is also substantial scope to contribute to high-value advisory projects, bespoke tax planning assignments, and broader commercial initiatives across the firm.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Portfolio & Compliance Leadership
Manage a substantial portfolio of corporate clients, from owner-managed businesses to large and complex groups.
Oversee the full compliance cycle across the team, from preparation and review through to client advice and submission to HMRC.
Lead annual filing activity across a wide range of corporate tax compliance obligations.
Complete and review complex tax compliance work to an exceptional standard.
Use compliance touchpoints to identify and progress tax planning opportunities for clients.
Client Advisory & Relationship Management
Support and deliver ad hoc advisory assignments and bespoke tax planning reports.
Scope projects, prepare fee quotes, and contribute to the delivery of high-quality client outcomes.
Build, maintain, and strengthen relationships with clients and professional third parties.
Lead meetings with more complex clients and act as a trusted advisor on tax matters.
Work closely with colleagues across service lines to ensure a joined-up and commercially effective client service.
Team Leadership & Development
Line manage, mentor, and support junior members of the tax team.
Provide clear, constructive feedback to help develop technical capability and confidence.
Assist with the internal tax training of colleagues across the team.
Set a strong example through integrity, professionalism, and high-quality delivery.
Process Improvement & Strategic Support
Collaborate with colleagues across all office locations to improve compliance processes and efficiency.
Help ensure the team remains at the forefront of tax technology and best practice.
Promote the Tax Service Line across the wider group and support colleagues in other offices with tax matters.
Work alongside senior leaders to help shape and deliver a successful and strategic approach for the Tax function.
Commercial & Business Development
Monitor key portfolio and team KPIs, including:
WIP
Billing
Debtors
Help ensure the function operates in a commercially sound and profitable way.
Identify growth opportunities within existing client relationships.
Support pitches, new client engagement activity, and wider business development efforts.
Strive to maximise fees while consistently adding value to the client experience.
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a commercially aware and technically strong tax professional who is confident managing a varied portfolio, leading others, and contributing to the wider success of the Tax Service Line.
Key Skills & Experience
CTA qualification preferred
Strong technical knowledge of corporate tax
Demonstrable advisory experience
Proven experience managing a varied tax portfolio
Ability to identify tax planning opportunities and progress them independently
Strong leadership capability with the confidence to work autonomously
Excellent organisational and workflow management skills
Experience reviewing the work of others and coaching junior team members
Ability to build strong, lasting relationships with:
