About the Role
The Falkland Islands Government is seeking a highly capable and technically skilled Company Taxation Officer (CTO) to join the Treasury Department’s Taxation Office. This is a key professional role focused on applying the Taxes Ordinance of the Falkland Islands, supporting the effective administration and collection of revenue, and contributing to the ongoing development of tax policy and legislation.
The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring corporation tax systems operate effectively, while also providing technical leadership, supporting colleagues, and acting as a trusted point of contact for a wide range of stakeholders.
Role Purpose
As Company Taxation Officer, you will help ensure the efficient and effective operation of tax administration systems in the Falkland Islands. You will be responsible for managing corporation tax casework, supporting compliance activity, contributing to legislative development, and helping maintain high professional and technical standards across the Taxation Office.

What You’ll Be Responsible For
Corporation Tax Compliance and Casework
Conduct full and aspect enquiries into companies and larger unincorporated businesses, including partnerships.
Review both locally registered businesses and international businesses operating in the Falkland Islands.
Maximise the recovery of taxes properly due under the Taxes Ordinance.
Manage corporation tax casework arising from:
annual returns
assessment cycles
outstanding issues from earlier years
Technical Oversight and Staff Development
Help develop, monitor, and maintain enquiry techniques used by other staff.
Support technical work involving:
companies
unincorporated businesses
self-employed individuals
Contribute to the professional development and technical understanding of junior colleagues.
Promote strong working practices and technical consistency across the wider Taxation Office.
Policy and Legislative Development
Work closely with the Head of Corporation Tax and the Commissioner of Taxation on tax policy matters.
Support decisions on the most appropriate tax systems for the Falkland Islands Government.
Review the Falkland Islands Taxes Ordinance 1997 and identify areas requiring attention or improvement.
Compare local provisions with UK tax legislation where relevant.
Liaise with:
UK technical experts
the Attorney General’s tax legislative drafter
stakeholders involved in public consultation
Stakeholder Engagement
Act as a key point of contact for enquiries relating to corporation tax and its rules.
Communicate clearly and professionally with:
members of the public
the local business community
overseas businesses
senior FIG management
elected Members
Operational Support
Support the Head of Corporation Tax in embedding best operating practices across the Taxation Office.
Work collaboratively as part of a busy and changing team environment.
Contribute ideas, challenge assumptions constructively, and help develop practical solutions to problems.

Essential
Significant practical experience working in a Taxation Office
Strong practical expertise in corporation tax compliance and investigating company accounts
Detailed technical knowledge of UK tax legislation
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with business users and stakeholders
Experience of mentoring and developing colleagues within a complex technical environment
Ability to use IT systems and software packages to an intermediate level, including:
Word
Excel
Access
formatting, calculations, data manipulation, reporting, and database work
Ability to work positively and effectively with:

Essential
Detailed technical knowledge of UK tax legislation
At least one of the following professional qualifications, or equivalent:
HMRC Tax Professional Development Programme
(now the Tax Specialist Programme)Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA)
CCAB / CIMA accountant qualification
Working Style
