About the Opportunity

Moore Kingston Smith is seeking an experienced Nonprofit Tax Senior Manager or Director to join our specialist Corporate and Business Tax team.

Our award-winning Nonprofit team supports a wide-ranging client base across the charity and nonprofit sector, including charities, education providers, trade associations, and membership bodies. As this sector remains central to our firm, this is an exciting opportunity to take on a highly visible role in shaping and expanding our dedicated nonprofit tax offering.

You will act as a trusted specialist adviser, leading both tax advisory and compliance services for a portfolio of nonprofit clients, while helping to strengthen our technical capability, develop colleagues, and drive growth in this important market.


The Role

In this position, you will take ownership of complex nonprofit tax assignments from initial planning through to final delivery, building strong relationships with senior stakeholders and delivering commercially focused, practical advice.

You will also work closely with tax partners and nonprofit audit partners, playing a collaborative role in enhancing our reputation and growing our presence across the sector.


What You’ll Be Doing

Client Delivery & Technical Leadership

  • Lead a portfolio of charity and nonprofit tax engagements, delivering high-quality advisory and compliance services.

  • Serve as a trusted adviser to senior stakeholders across a varied nonprofit client base.

  • Take responsibility for complex tax matters, ensuring assignments are delivered to a high standard, on time, and with commercial insight.

Specialist Nonprofit Tax Advice

  • Provide expert guidance on a range of charity and nonprofit tax issues, including:

  • Charity tax reliefs and exemptions

  • Creative tax relief claims, especially exhibition and orchestra tax relief

  • Structuring for non-exempt activities and property transactions

  • Charity and nonprofit restructurings

  • Restrictions on non-charitable expenditure

  • Gift Aid for charities and donors

  • Mutual trading tax status

Internal Support & Collaboration

  • Provide practical and timely technical support to wider Practice teams on tax matters arising from annual tax computations for charity and nonprofit clients.

  • Work collaboratively across the firm to strengthen internal knowledge and enhance service delivery in nonprofit tax.

Growth, Business Development & Thought Leadership

  • Identify advisory opportunities within existing client relationships and contribute to the continued growth of the nonprofit tax offering.

  • Support business development activity, including proposals, tenders, and converting opportunities through the broader firm network.

  • Contribute to sector-focused thought leadership initiatives to raise profile and win new work.

  • Deliver seminars, training sessions, and speaking engagements both internally and externally.

People Development

  • Coach, mentor, and develop junior colleagues, helping to build a strong technical resource within the team.

  • Share specialist knowledge and support the development of high-performing tax professionals.


What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a confident and commercially minded tax professional with deep sector knowledge and a passion for working with charities and nonprofit organisations.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Strong UK tax technical expertise, with significant experience in the charities and nonprofit sector gained within a professional services environment.

  • A background delivering both tax compliance and advisory services.

  • ATT and/or CTA qualification preferred.

  • Proven success in business development, including identifying opportunities, supporting proposals or tenders, and helping convert work.

  • Strong client relationship management skills, with experience advising senior stakeholders and delivering proactive, value-led advice.

  • Demonstrated experience working with charities, membership organisations, and companies limited by guarantee.

  • A clear understanding of the complex and evolving tax environment affecting the nonprofit sector.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-specialists.

  • Strong project management capability, including managing multiple assignments, deadlines, budgets, and stakeholder expectations.

  • High levels of professionalism, integrity, and sound judgement.

  • A strong awareness of risk management and quality standards.

  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of the operating challenges facing charities and nonprofit organisations.

  • A collaborative, team-oriented approach with a genuine commitment to supporting and developing others.
