Hartree Partners is seeking an experienced Tax Director to join its global tax team in London. This is a high-impact leadership role supporting the European tax function, with a primary focus on Touton entities across Europe, Africa, APAC, and LATAM.
Reporting to the Head of European Tax, this position offers the opportunity to work at the centre of an international commodities business, partnering closely with finance, trading, and senior management teams to deliver strategic tax insight, risk management, and compliance leadership.

The Opportunity
This role is ideal for a senior tax professional who combines strong technical expertise with commercial awareness and an ability to build trusted relationships across a global organisation.
You will act as a key tax partner to the Touton business, helping shape tax strategy, support business decision-making, manage risk, and strengthen governance across multiple jurisdictions.
To develop a deep understanding of the Touton business and its stakeholders, regular travel to Bordeaux will be required, with occasional travel to other international locations as business needs evolve.
Key Responsibilities
Business Partnering & Advisory
Act as the day-to-day direct tax business partner to Touton finance and trading teams.
Provide practical, commercially focused tax advice to support operational and strategic decision-making.
Advise Touton General Management and CFO, offering clear insights on tax matters and the business implications of regulatory developments.
Support Heads of Finance across Touton subsidiaries on local and international tax issues.
Risk Management & Strategy
Proactively identify tax risks and opportunities across the Touton business and lead related projects through to delivery.
Drive strategic tax insight and risk management for Touton Group subsidiaries, particularly those located in Africa.
Monitor global tax developments and assess their relevance and impact on the business.
Ensure Hartree tax positions are applied consistently across the Touton organisation.
Compliance, Governance & Controls
Establish and enhance tax processes and controls to monitor ongoing tax risks and opportunities.
Ensure timely and accurate tax compliance, including filing and reporting obligations.
Coordinate with external advisers to support Touton during tax investigations and audits.
Work closely with Hartree tax teams in Europe and the US to ensure governance processes are followed effectively.
Collaboration & Project Support
Maintain transparent communication with finance and business stakeholders on key tax matters.
Contribute to wider Hartree EMEA tax initiatives and support ad hoc tax projects as required.
Build strong relationships across multiple jurisdictions, functions, and leadership teams.
What We’re Looking For
Experience
Minimum of 12 years’ tax experience, gained either:
in a leading consulting firm working on international projects, or
in a similar senior role within an international company.
Proven track record of leading complex global tax advisory projects.
Strong experience in managing tax matters across multiple jurisdictions and business environments.
Technical Expertise
Deep knowledge of French tax law and French tax compliance is essential.
Strong understanding of international taxation and cross-border tax issues.
Ability to translate complex tax matters into clear, actionable business advice.
Skills & Competencies
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to deliver information clearly, quickly, and concisely.
Strong organisational ability, with the confidence to multitask in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Commercial mindset with a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
Ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders and external advisers across global teams.
Qualifications
Fluency in English and French is required.
Master’s degree in Tax Law (such as DJCE or equivalent), or
Master’s degree in Finance with a focus on international taxation.
