The Opportunity
AlphaSights is seeking an accomplished and commercially minded Group Tax Manager to take ownership of a broad international tax agenda across direct tax, indirect tax, payroll tax, compliance, and strategic advisory work.
This is a high-impact role offering the opportunity to work closely with senior leadership, support global finance operations, and shape tax processes across a dynamic international group.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
International Direct & Indirect Tax
In this role, you will manage tax compliance and advisory matters across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring accurate reporting, timely submissions, and strong governance across the Group.
- Manage AlphaSights’ tax advisor network and coordinate the flow of information required for tax computation preparation across trading subsidiaries in:
- UK
- US
- Germany
- UAE
- Japan
- Hong Kong
- China
- Korea
- Portugal
- Prepare UK tax computations, including the calculation of quarterly instalment payments for future periods.
- Support and prepare R&D tax relief claims as part of UK tax filings.
- Oversee US federal and state tax matters, including sales tax compliance, with support from local advisors.
- Maintain and update transfer pricing documentation and review intercompany recharge policies and processes.
- Ensure VAT and Sales/Use tax returns are submitted accurately and on time by local finance teams.
- Lead responses to tax authority enquiries and investigations across all relevant jurisdictions, working alongside local finance teams and external advisors.
- Oversee intercompany recharge accounting between subsidiaries from a tax and process perspective.
Tax Reporting & Financial Statements
You will play a key role in tax accounting and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and supporting external audit requirements.
- Prepare corporation tax and deferred tax accruals in the consolidated financial statements on a monthly basis in line with GAAP.
- Prepare year-end tax provisions to support the annual audit and statutory accounts process.
- Partner with the GFC and CFO on tax planning initiatives and opportunities to optimise the Group’s effective tax rate.
- Support the annual financial statement audit process on all tax-related matters, liaising closely with external advisors and auditors.
Payroll Tax Oversight
This position also requires strong knowledge of payroll tax matters, particularly where compensation structures and contractor arrangements have cross-border implications.
- Act as the in-house subject matter expert on payroll tax issues relating to compensation and benefits in kind.
- Provide guidance on tax deductibility in areas where expenditure or activity may not be allowable for tax purposes.
- Oversee preparation of UK PSA filings.
- Review contractor status across jurisdictions, including matters such as:
- IR35 in the UK
- 1099 filing requirements in the US
Governance, Risk & Projects
Beyond day-to-day compliance, you will help strengthen AlphaSights’ tax governance framework and contribute to strategic finance initiatives.
- Lead tax compliance initiatives, including UK SAO obligations.
- Maintain a tax risk register, ensuring material risks are properly identified, assessed, and reviewed by the Board.
- Support the GFC and CFO with decision-making, strategic input, and ad hoc requests.
- Drive tax-related project work, including ad hoc tax and ERP system initiatives.
What We’re Looking For
AlphaSights values a range of experiences and backgrounds. Successful candidates often bring many of the following attributes:
- Strong academic background with an advanced tax qualification — essential.
- Accounting qualification — highly desirable, though not required.
- Experience in a tax advisory role and/or within a tax function in an international business.
- Demonstrated experience dealing professionally with tax authorities.
- Exposure to a broad range of international direct and indirect tax matters, including:
- Corporation tax
- Payroll taxes
- VAT
- Sales tax
- Exposure to the US tax environment — highly desirable.
- Strong technical tax knowledge with an up-to-date understanding of relevant legislation.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- The resilience, drive, and adaptability to deliver high-quality work under tight timelines and changing priorities.
- A growth mindset, with the ability to learn, evolve, and turn challenges into development opportunities.
- Fluency in English — essential.
- Fluency in an additional relevant language — a plus.
