The Opportunity
We are looking for a Tax Manager / Senior Manager to join our specialist tax team.
In this role, you will take ownership of a diverse personal tax portfolio, delivering both high-quality compliance services and strategic advisory support. This is a tax-focused position, offering the chance to work across a wide variety of complex planning matters while building lasting client relationships.
Location
This position will be primarily based across our Stockport and Droylsden offices, as required.
What You’ll Be Doing
As Tax Manager / Senior Manager, you will play a key role in managing client relationships, overseeing personal tax compliance, and providing expert planning advice.
Key responsibilities:
Manage a personal tax portfolio of approximately 300–350 clients
Deliver personal tax compliance and advisory work to a consistently high standard
Meet with clients regularly to discuss their tax affairs and provide practical, tailored advice
Prepare and review personal tax returns, ensuring:
accuracy
timely submission
full HMRC compliance
Provide proactive planning advice across areas including:
Residence and domicile
Capital Gains Tax (CGT)
Inheritance Tax (IHT)
Trusts
Income tax planning
Identify opportunities to improve client tax efficiency and communicate recommendations clearly
Act as the main point of contact for your portfolio, resolving queries and maintaining excellent service levels
Supervise and support junior team members, including reviewing work and encouraging development
Collaborate with senior managers and partners on complex advisory assignments
Keep technical knowledge up to date with current and emerging UK personal tax legislation
Support the continued growth of the tax team through relationship management and identifying additional service opportunities
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a confident and technically strong tax professional with the ability to manage a substantial client portfolio and deliver trusted advice.
Essential experience and skills:
Extensive experience in personal tax
Proven track record of managing a large and varied portfolio of around 300–350 clients
Strong client-facing skills, with confidence in meeting clients and advising on their tax affairs
Excellent technical knowledge of UK personal tax, including:
Income tax
CGT
IHT
Residence and domicile
General tax planning
Experience preparing and reviewing personal tax returns, including more complex cases
Ability to interpret complex tax legislation and explain it clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Previous experience supervising, mentoring, or reviewing the work of junior team members
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage workload independently
A proactive, solutions-focused mindset
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Qualifications
ATT and/or CTA qualifications are desirable
Equivalent substantial relevant experience will also be considered
