About the Role

Tax Assistant Manager / Emerging Tax Manager

Octopus Energy Generation (OEGen)

Octopus Energy Generation (OEGen) is a specialist energy investment manager with more than £8 billion in assets under management. Our purpose is clear: to help drive the transition to a net zero energy system by investing in clean energy infrastructure and energy transition businesses across international markets.

As our global portfolio continues to expand, we are growing our in-house tax capability and are looking for a commercially minded tax professional who is excited by the opportunity to develop within a fast-moving investment environment.

The Opportunity

We are hiring a Tax Assistant Manager — or someone ready to step into an emerging Tax Manager role — to join the OEGen Tax Team. This role reports directly to the Funds & Deals Tax Lead and offers the chance to build a broad international tax career within a growing infrastructure investment platform.

This opportunity is ideal for a professional with around 4–5 years of experience who wants to deepen their technical expertise, strengthen their commercial understanding, and gain hands-on exposure to project and transaction work in an international setting.

You will support a portfolio of OEGen funds and related holding structures across multiple jurisdictions, partnering closely with investment teams, finance, legal, portfolio companies, and external advisors on a diverse range of tax matters.

What You’ll Be Working On

In this role, you will be involved in a wide variety of tax responsibilities across our international investment structures and transactions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the management of tax matters across OEGen funds and associated holding structures

  • Coordinate international tax compliance with local advisors in multiple jurisdictions

  • Assist with tax reporting, tax provisioning, and financial statement disclosures

  • Contribute to tax workstreams on acquisitions, refinancings, restructurings, and other strategic transactions

  • Review transaction and financing documents from a tax perspective, with guidance from senior team members where needed

  • Monitor tax risks and support governance and compliance frameworks

  • Collaborate closely with investment, finance, legal, and external advisory teams

  • Help improve internal tax processes, controls, and documentation

What We’re Looking For

We’re interested in candidates who combine strong technical foundations with sound judgement, curiosity, and the drive to keep learning.

Skills & Experience

  • Around 4–5 years of experience in corporate tax

  • CTA, ACA, or equivalent qualification, or close to qualification

  • Background gained in a Big 4 firm, international advisory firm, law firm, or in-house tax team

  • Good understanding of tax compliance, reporting, and tax accounting

  • Some exposure to international tax matters or cross-border structures would be helpful, though deep specialist expertise is not essential

  • Interest in infrastructure, energy, or investment management would be advantageous

  • Foreign language skills — especially German, French, Spanish, or Italian — would be useful, though not required

Personal Attributes

  • Strong reasoning and analytical skills

  • Good commercial awareness

  • A proactive and collaborative approach

  • Willingness to learn and grow in a broader international tax role over time

This role would particularly suit someone looking to develop into a broader tax management position while working alongside experienced senior stakeholders in a supportive and hands-on team.

Why Join OEGen?

This is a chance to be part of a collaborative in-house tax team at the heart of an ambitious, international clean energy investment platform.

What Makes This Role Stand Out

  • Broad exposure to international investment structures

  • Involvement in cross-border transactions and strategic projects

  • Opportunity to work with senior stakeholders across tax, finance, legal, and investments

  • A platform for building both technical depth and commercial breadth

  • A supportive environment designed to help you grow your career
