The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced OMB Tax Manager with a strong Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) advisory focus to join our team.

This is a key role within the business, offering the opportunity to take ownership of EIS compliance and advisory work, act as a trusted adviser to clients, and become a recognised EIS specialist across the firm.

You will work closely with senior stakeholders to deliver technically robust advice, identify planning opportunities, and help strengthen and grow our EIS offering for both new and existing clients.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys combining deep technical knowledge with client interaction, commercial awareness, and team development.

How You’ll Make an Impact

EIS Compliance & Client Delivery

You will play a central role in managing and delivering EIS-focused work for clients, ensuring quality, efficiency, and strong technical standards throughout.

  • Provide advice to clients on EIS matters, including qualifying criteria and eligibility

  • Assist with HMRC submissions and wider EIS compliance requirements

  • Prepare and review work to a high technical standard ahead of Director/Partner sign-off

  • Complete complex returns involving significant technical analysis and clear supporting documentation

  • Act as a first point of contact for client queries on individual assignments

  • Ensure client expectations are understood and managed effectively

  • Delegate work to junior team members where appropriate

  • Proactively organise upcoming work and plan ahead on assignments

  • Identify wider opportunities during compliance reviews, including areas such as:

  • ERS reporting

  • BIK issues

  • Share schemes and awards


Advisory & Project Work

You will contribute to and help lead advisory projects, bringing both technical expertise and commercial insight to each engagement.

  • Identify tax planning opportunities and situations where clients would benefit from detailed written advice

  • Scope advisory projects, prepare fee estimates, and monitor delivery and recovery

  • Draft and review:

  • Advisory reports

  • Technical memoranda

  • Clearance applications

  • Support Directors and Partners on advisory assignments

  • Assist with the development and delivery of EIS advisory work

  • Spot opportunities to expand EIS-related services to both existing and prospective clients


Team Leadership & Development

This role includes a strong people element, with responsibility for supporting junior team members and contributing to the wider capability of the department.

  • Work closely with trainees and seniors to improve efficiency and job delivery

  • Take responsibility for reviewing work and supporting development

  • Coach junior colleagues on:

  • EIS technical knowledge

  • Compliance processes

  • Best practice

  • Share technical insights across the OMB team through informal coaching and knowledge sharing

  • Act as a role model for:

  • Quality

  • Professional behaviour

  • Decision-making

  • Support recruitment activity by identifying team capability gaps and contributing to interviews and selection processes


Workflow, Budgets & Risk Management

You will also play an important role in operational effectiveness, helping ensure work is delivered efficiently, commercially, and in line with risk procedures.

  • Actively manage WIP and reporting, feeding into the senior team

  • Prepare meaningful budgets and monitor progress against them

  • Help ensure departmental budgets and new initiatives are followed by junior staff

  • Analyse team processes and suggest improvements to workflow and efficiency

  • Apply risk management procedures appropriately

  • Ensure junior team members understand and follow risk requirements

  • Maintain strong technical awareness and keep up to date with relevant legislative and tax developments


What We’re Looking For

Qualifications

  • ACA or ATT qualified

  • CTA completed, or equivalent relevant experience

Core Experience

  • Experience reviewing tax returns and managing compliance workflows

  • Strong background working with owner-managed businesses

  • Ability to manage work autonomously, with Director/Partner oversight where appropriate

EIS Expertise

  • Strong hands-on experience in EIS compliance and advisory

  • Experience with:

  • EIS advance assurance applications

  • EIS3s

  • Investor reporting

  • Ability to prepare or review EIS-related technical analysis

  • Proven ability to identify EIS planning opportunities within broader compliance work

Additional Technical Experience

  • Preparing complex tax returns, including use of the group module

  • Drafting sections of reports and clearances

Skills & Attributes

  • Strong technical judgement and excellent attention to detail

  • Commercial awareness, including budgeting and recovery

  • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop junior staff

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines

  • Confidence to challenge ideas and escalate issues when needed

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency with MS Office and relevant tax software

  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach
